OTC South Pacific Inc (formerly AIOD South Pacific*) was established in 2005 as a chapter of the Osteosynthesis and Trauma Care Foundation (OTC) to serve Australia and New Zealand. OTC South Pacific's purpose is to advance the science and art of musculoskeletal treatment in the South Pacific through the conduct, sponsorship and support of research, education and training.

Education

To date, OTC South Pacific has focused heavily on delivering high quality educational programs. Dr. Brett Halliday in his former role as the Director of Education for OTC South Pacific recruited an Educational Sub-Committee that is now involved in the design and delivery of courses.

OTC South Pacific chapter now includes three types of 2 day “Advanced Fracture Management” cadaveric courses for advanced registrars, focusing on complex fractures of the knee; pelvic/acetabulum; and upper limb fracture management respectively. These courses are dynamic, with a mixture of lectures, case discussions and workshops and a low student to instructor ratio of 3:1.

The new Advanced Fracture Management cadaveric course covering the management of upper limb fractures was held in Brisbane in July 2011. OTC South Pacific also runs IM nail courses across Australia for junior registrars.

For more information on future courses, refer to our Courses & Educational Resources page.

In 2010 & 2011 OTC South Pacific has been involved in the development of educational DVDs linked to our Advanced Fracture Management Courses. We now provide lecture DVDs for all delegates of the above courses as part of the registration fee.

OTC is also delighted to announce the availability of 2 surgical approach DVDs for purchase. These DVD's cover the surgical techniques from the pelvic & acetabular fractures course & the shoulder and elbow approaches from the Upper Limb Fracture Management course. Please refer to our Courses & Educational Resources page for order forms and further information.
